Julie,

I stumbled on your web site by accident. I was missing home and in a surf of Newberry I found a link to your site. I really enjoyed the picture of the road in Gould City. That picture was home to me more than anything in Newberry. It brought back memories of week-ends and summers spent in G.C. and section drives with loved ones (some no longer with us). Although I live in Texas my heart remains in the UP.

Thanks for the web visit home!

Hi Julie,

We made it home, left Sunday AM after a quick bite. Was good to see you, Bob, Travis, & Taylor and everyone. We are scheduled to come up on a bus in January with a group on a casino run. We will be staying overnight at the Soo casino hotel. I'll let you know the date, I think it's the 19th, but Brenda's handling that. Keep in touch. Val Julie, could you forward my email address & website around to Frankie and others, thanks, or if you have any of their email addresses please send to me. thanks again, Val

Awesome website! We visited Tahquamenon Falls and Oswald's Bears (Newberry) two weeks before the fire started. I love the UP and visit often. :D My mom was born in the UP and still have relatives there (Rapid River, Gladstone, Marquette). Thanks to everyone involved in extinguishing the fire.

Your site has been very informative concerning the Sleeper Lake fire. Luce county is one of my favorite U.P. areas. We go camping every year at Perch Lake. We had a trip planned when we heard about the fire. It was marching towards my favorite camping areas and at one point I thought so much more would be lost and I shed some tears. But we ended up being able to camp at Perch Lake during the week of August 19th. We had a scare when the fire flared up, but everything turned out ok. I stopped at 4 mile corner and donated some money and food items for the hard working firefighters. Praying for some heavy rain for my beloved U.P.! I am still checking your site almost every day. Keep up the good work. :-)

There is alot of good Sleeper Lake Fire information on :

http://www.topix.net/city/newberry-mi/2007/0...

About 40+ pages of comments from many who have Cabins and property in the Sleeper Lake fire area.

It has been good reading and information. Amazing how many people have cabins and property near the fire area.

Glad they are getting it under control

What a great site you have here! I have been coming up to the UP years and your site has many of the places I frequent.

Thank you for all the information regarding the fire since we are coming up to camp over the Labor Day weekend and needed to know where the fire was exactly as well as what is permissable.

Good luck to all the firefighters and helpers out there fighting the fire - may God watch over them all so everyone stays safe!

I would like to post a quick "Thank you" to the Curtis Veterinary Clinic on Hwy 33 in Gould City for helping out with our two dogs while we were camping over the 4th of July...

Keep up the good work with this great site!

Thanks so much!

Hi Julie,
Ran across your web pages when reading about the Newberry fire. Sure wish you could have some of the rain that our area in Northwest Ohio has received this week.

Your web pages are so interesting! Keep up the good work!

It's nice to read and see pictures about "home".
All the best,
Louise Small

Julie,
I appreciate the work you have done in updating your site each day. My parents still live south of Newberry on Co Rd 397 and my Brother lives right in town. We have a lot of friends in Nby and have been watching the news from Algoma, WI (which is 30 miles straight east of Green Bay on the shores of Lake Michigan) from the start of the fire. I stumbled onto your site on a google search and have stayed with you since about the 2nd day of the fire. We will be up to cut firewood and to visit my folks on Labor Day weekend and will be passing thru Engadine on the way.

So glad nobody has been hurt and no major structural property lose has happened.
Just wanted to thank you for your continued efforts to keep us on the outside informed thru your website. It is very much appreciated as well as the links to the other websites like the MI DNR site for the video links and pictures.
Thanks again, Aron & Tammy Thomas

Great website! We happened to be camping at Muskallonge Lake State Park when 407 was closed and they issued a mandatory evacuation of the park. We love the Upper Pennisula and have enjoyed this area for many years. To all the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to put this fire out and protect our property, lives and resources. THANK YOU! We ended up camping at the Straits park and had a good time but the fire was always on our minds.

A huge thanks to all the firemen, volunteers, 'copter pilots, dozer drivers, Red Cross, Salvation Army, the local businesses and anyone I may not have mentioned.
My mother lives in Munising and we spend probably a month up there in 10 day increments each year. Love the U.P. Pass by that area every time we go to visit.

We were saddend by the news of the fires around the Newberry area. We were on our way to the Soo on Friday 8-3 when we saw the cloud bank, only to find out on Saturday that the clouds were smoke. To our amazement, there has not been anything on our news about this fire. I have checked daily on the internet to keep up on the location of the fire. Our prayers and thoughts our with the families in that area. We pray that you get the much needed rain that you need for the fire and the dry conditions.
Sincerely,
Don & Phyllis Caywood

Julie,
The new pics of the turkeys are really great!! Mr. Tom sure put on a show for you. The pic of him strutting his stuff is soooo cool! The ones of him showing off his array of feathers are great and something not seen often with wild turkeys (atleast I've never seen it :-)
I'm thinking Old Tom must have lost a few feathers while defending his lovely lady! :D
